The Company:
Our client is an international logistics and freight forwarding company that offers transportation solutions globally. The company provides a wide range of customized solutions of logistics services and supply chain solutions such as Transportation, Warehousing and Custom Clearance.
The Ocean Procurement Manager will coordinate with the Ocean Freight team and take the lead in procurement for Singapore and Malaysia. The role is to work closely with the product and commercial team on both local and regional levels.
The Ocean Procurement Manager is responsible for:
- Responsible for Tariff Management for Malaysia and Singapore including local charges, customs clearance, trucking for ocean freight and freight charges or surcharges.
- Leading the ocean tender strategy for both counties, including decisions for local accounts & tenders.
- Regular meetings and product-sales collaboration reviews with Sales General Manager and Country Manager for Malaysia and Singapore
- Coordination with Malaysia and Singapore Sales Management to ensure capturing new customer or lanes.
- Define and align on the commercial and product strategy with the Commercial Head of Malaysia and Singapore and the FCL/LCL Regional Procurement teams.
- Selecting liners and co-loaders that can be used within the country beyond main carriers in alignment with the FCL and LCL Product heads.
- Evaluate the carriers’ performance, establishing objectives and building up sustainable and deep relationships locally.
- Monitor and control core liners and co-loaders and coordinate local performance reviews while consolidating performance feedback for review.
- Define Root Cause Analysis and Action Plans for to improve carrier performance.
- To research, analyse and evaluate the competitiveness of the rates for Malaysia and Singapore by communicating with the Head of LCL if the rate levels are in line with the local market conditions.
- Manage local allocations based on the commercial team requirements and the carrier to ensure stability of service.
- Rate negotiation, filing and contract generation with vendors for tenders, major accounts, and shipment volume.
- Competitive rate negotiation for spot business or rates which do not fit into the negotiated standard tariffs, in a timely manner.
- Support the commercial teams by visiting customers that are strategic for the country, to add value and increase success chances.
- Provide competitive buying rates to existing and potential businesses.
- Generate and share market intelligence within Malaysia and Singapore and the FCL Trade Lane Procurement team and the Head of LCL of the region.
- Organize user-oriented product trainings in alignment with the FCL and LCL Product Management teams, to enhance sales & operations’ knowledge of ocean freight products and systems.
The Requirements
- Higher Secondary /”A” Levels / Certificate / Diploma / Degree or higher field.
- Minimum 10 years related working experience with 5 years’ experience in a procurement management role in freight forwarding/logistics.
- Proficient in English both written and verbal.
- Willingness to travel
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to coordinate procurement initiatives throughout country and lead the procurement community on all levels.
- Result driven and persistent in meeting day to day goals.
- Strong analytical and negotiation skills and hands-on attitude
- Demonstrate confidence as a performer and lead by example.
